The monsoon is in full swing and the nature and body is in weak state due to the transition from the scorching heat of summer to the monsoon showers. Ayurveda recommends Ritucharya (Regimen to be followed in various seasons) and Dinacharya (Daily Regimen) for promoting and preserving the health and to balance the three somatic humours (Tridoshas).During rainy seasons the health of the person will be minimal due to the influence of environment on the body . In Kerala month of Karkidakam is the last month of the traditional Malayalam calendar and it falls approximately between July-August .This period is advocated ideal for Ayurvedic therapies and practice so as recoup body strength and immunity. Consumption of âKarkidaka Kanji/Oushadha kanji ' is one such regimen traditionally in practice in Kerala for nourishing the body improving digestion and to flush out the toxins and to boost the immune system. The main ingredient of Oushadha kanji (medicated porridgel) is a special type rice known as Njavara rice cooked with spices like Cumin pepper coriander cardamom etc and herbs like Garden cress Fenugreek White flowered embelia(vidanga) Indian sarsaparilla (Sariba)etc 'Njavara' is a unique variety of rice found only in Kerala and is widely acclaimed for its medicinal value .
